The BEST Ground Beef Tacos Recipe

 - I already know that someone's gonna leave a comment and say that these aren't traditional tacos. These aren't real tacos. And my answer to that is, no (bleep). These are Trader Joe's tacos. (rich, upbeat music) What is good, everyone?

Philip Lemoine here, and on this channel, I'll be posting on all things good in food, my life, and business. If you haven't already done so, make sure to subscribe right now. The last time I and Kristen went home, we stopped by Trader Joe's and we found this taco seasoning. They were pretty inexpensive. I think they're about $1, so we grabbed about four or five of them.

We thought we'd just give 'em a try. They ended up being probably the best taco seasoning I've ever had. We loved these tacos so much that we actually probably had them once a week all last year. Today, I'll show you how I prepare them and what I like to top them with. To prepare these tacos, it's super easy.

All you need to do is add oil to a pot, and then, throw in a medium diced onion and cook it 'til it's caramelized and brown.

The directions say to only cook the onions for about two minutes 'til they're brown. I like to really bring these down and get them really caramelized. I feel like it adds a lot more flavor. (sizzling onions) Next, what you'll wanna do is go ahead and add a pound of ground beef.

You'll wanna cook that until it's all brown and you don't see any pink left. (sizzling meat and onions) After that, all you need to do is add this packet of taco seasoning. The directions say to add half a packet, and if you want it really spicy, you can add the whole packet. I don't think it's really that spicy, so I always just add the whole packet. (luxurious instrumentals) You just go ahead and incorporate all those ingredients, and then, after it's been cooking for about five minutes, what you'll do is go ahead and add one 14-ounce can of diced tomatoes.

The directions say to let this cook for about five more minutes 'til it thickens.

I like to lower the temperature down a really low simmer and I let it cook for about 30 to 40 minutes. Now that we got that cooking, I'm gonna go ahead and prepare my toppings. I just like to put the basics on my tacos, and that's tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and avocado, and what I'll do is I'll go ahead and prepare that now. I got this cool tomato corer, picker thing from my friend Eric and his wife Jun for my birthday, and I probably use this once a week, so thank you guys so much for this.

It's pretty cool. All you have to do is just press this button in the back here and it just goes right in, and then, I just give it a twist, and there it is. I'm just gonna go ahead and dice up these tomatoes, and we have these old poke containers that we like to store everything in, so we're gonna go ahead and throw everything in thereafter.

(luxurious instrumentals) Next, I'm gonna do this red onion. I like to dice them up into really small pieces and I'll show you how I do that right now.

I start off by cutting it in half, trim off this end here, and then, I'll just peel off one of the layers. What I'll do is I'll go in and I'll make these small, little cuts this way, not all the way down to the root, and then, once I have that, I'll go and make tiny little cuts this way. (dicing) And then, hit it back this way.

(dicing) And here it is; should have some small, minced onions. Some big pieces, I messed up; but whatever.

(luxurious instrumentals) Shout out to my homie Andrew for this cutting board, too. I think I got this on my birthday or Christmas as well. Thank you so much. I use it every single day. He got my last name engraved on it.

I'm gonna go ahead and throw these in the fridge for now, and then, I'll wait for these tacos to finish cooking.

(luxurious instrumentals) Two other main ingredients to these tacos are gonna be this salsa and these taco shells. This salsa's from Safeway. It's their Garlic Lovers Salsa. I put it on everything.

It's so good. I would highly recommend checking it out. It's one of my favorite salsas. It doesn't have a strong garlic flavor, but there are definitely slices of garlic in there and it tastes so good. The other thing I really love is these taco shells.

They remind me of the Taco Bell Nachos Locos Doritos, Doritos Nachos Locos Tacos. These taco shells are amazing, and I'll show ya how I cook those next. The way that I cook these taco shells is I literally just throw them into a toaster oven on the rack like this. You really wanna keep an eye on them because they don't cook quickly, but they can go from perfect to burnt in less than a minute.

(luxurious instrumentals) This is about the consistency that I like for my tacos.

It's not too watery. A lot of that water that came out of the can from the tomatoes evaporated. Those tomatoes also broke down. The onions are soft, and look like this. Now that the taco filling's done, I'm gonna show you how I build tacos.

Usually, I'll go meet first, usually just two spoons like this per taco. Then, I'll go lettuce. Think I'll do some avocado slices next.

Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm. And then, tomatoes.

I'm just gonna use my fingers already. And then, we have the best salsa. (luxurious instrumentals) And last but not least, I wanna thank our sponsor Sargento for the cheese, my favorite cheese. This is their 4 Cheese Mexican blend. (luxurious instrumentals) And there it is, folks.

The Trader Joe's tacos. We eat 'em probably once a week and they never disappoint. If you enjoyed watching this, please be sure to subscribe. I post weekly videos with all things good in food, my life, and business. Thank you guys so much for watching.

(luxurious instrumentals) (crunching) Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm. (crunching) Mm-hmm, mm-hmm..
